H10 Casa de la Plata
What caught our eye here is how deliberately local the design reads for a hotel...
Casa del Poeta sits at the end of a pedestrian lane in Santa Cruz, Seville's old Jewish quarter, a position that makes the house quieter than almost anything else this close to the cathedral. The building is a restored seventeenth-century Sevillian mansion, laid out the way the city's noble houses always were, rooms arranged around a central courtyard where Moorish arches frame a working fountain. That courtyard carries the hotel: its sound sets the pace for the whole stay, and most evenings a classical guitarist plays there for free, a detail more often found in a concert hall than a seventeen-room hotel.
We chose Casa del Poeta for the way it turns restraint into a selling point: seventeen individually decorated rooms and suites, bold prints by contemporary Andalusian artists and genuine Roman artifacts in the suites, and two rooms, 24 and 25, that look directly onto the neighbouring Italian consulate's private garden. Room 24 goes further with its own terrace. There is deliberately no restaurant on site, just a hotel bar open all day and breakfast served on the patio or in the dining room, a choice that keeps the focus on the courtyard rather than diluting it with a full kitchen.
Don Carlos Alonso Chaparro sits inside Santa Cruz, close enough to Seville Cathedral and La Giralda to reach them on foot in about three minutes, and the Real Alcázar in about four. The Archivo de Indias, the Torre del Oro and the Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza are all within the same short radius, along with the Museo del Baile Flamenco and the Hospital de los Venerables. The Archivo de Indias tram stop and Puerta de Jerez metro stop are both about five to six minutes away, so the hotel works equally well on foot or by public transport.

The fourteen rooms and three suites lean bright and antique-furnished rather than minimalist, and the suites carry bold prints from contemporary Andalusian artists alongside genuine Roman artifacts, an unusual pairing that keeps them from feeling like a standard upgrade. Rooms 24 and 25 are the ones to ask for specifically: both overlook the private garden of the neighbouring Italian consulate, a view no amount of renovation elsewhere in the old town can replicate, and room 24 adds a private terrace on top of it.
With no pool, spa or gym on site, Casa del Poeta puts its energy into the spaces it does have: the central patio with its fountain and Moorish arches, a rooftop terrace looking toward the Giralda, and a small art gallery that turns the public areas into something worth lingering in rather than passing through. In-room spa treatments can be arranged for guests who want that experience without leaving the building, and turndown service closes out each evening after the guitar has finished playing.
There is no restaurant on site, so dinner means walking into Santa Cruz's own restaurants or ordering from the hotel's sister Italian kitchen nearby; guests wanting a full-service hotel restaurant should look elsewhere. The property is entirely smoke-free, and pets are not accepted. Because it sits at the end of a pedestrian lane, arriving by car usually means a short walk with luggage from the nearest drop-off point.
